University of Malta

The University of Malta is the highest teaching institution in Malta, is publicly funded and opens to all students who have the requisite requirements. The main Campus of the University of Malta  is situated at Msida. However, there are two other campuses : the Valletta Campus which is housed in the Old University Building and the Gozo Campus.  The Valletta Campus dates back to the founding of the Collegium Melitense and incorporates the Aula Magna. The Valletta Campus serves mainly as a prestigious setting for the hosting of international conferences, seminars and short courses. The Gozo Campus on the other hand offers part-time evening degree and diploma courses in various areas of study.

Currently, around 10,000 students including 600 foreign/exchange students from around 60 different countries are following full-time or part-time degree and diploma courses at the University of Malta. The University has also strived to be in line with the Bologna process and the European Higher Education Area.

One important fact to notice is that for the past few decades, the University of Malta has offered courses which are relevant to the needs of the country. Approximately 3,000 students graduate in various disciplines annually. Moreover, the degree courses at the University are designed to produce highly qualified professionals, with experience in research, who will play key roles in industry, commerce and public affairs in general. Moreover around 2,800 pre-tertiary students attend the Junior College which is also managed by the University.
